About Me

Eve Barrett Baines - Occupational Therapist

I am extremely passionate about utilising my knowledge, experience and skills within my specialism to support individuals, their families and those who work with or care for them to enable them to function optimally in day to day activities and to achieve their aspirations.

After 10 years of experience of working with individuals with autism, intellectual disabilities and other developmental differences within the NHS and the charitable sector, I took the decision to establish myself as an Independent Occupational Therapist as I recognised that working in this way would enable me to provide thorough and holistic assessments, individualised recommendations, feedback and advice in addition to developing and delivering comprehensive high-quality bespoke training, advisory and consultancy services. I thoroughly enjoy providing the support and specialist services which I offer as EBB-OT alongside working in my part-time post as a Senior Occupational Therapist specialising in the assessment of children and young peoples' sensory processing abilities/needs in a local CAMHS Intellectual Disabilities Team.

My experience and skills include:

  • Working in mainstream and special schools, pupil referral units, the community and clinic settings completing assessments regarding; sensory processing, handwriting, fine motor, gross motor, self-care, independence and organisation skills and providing related advice and interventions to enable children to develop these skills and optimise their functional performance.
  • Engaging in research activity which I presented verbally and/or in poster format at local, national and international levels.
  • Developing departmental care pathways and resources to best meet the needs of individuals with a diagnosis of autism and individuals experiencing sensory processing difficulties.
  • Providing support and supervision to colleagues and other professionals working with individuals with sensory processing needs or individuals with a diagnosis of autism experiencing complex difficulties.
  • Completing in-depth assessments of; sensory processing ability/need, functional abilities and access needs with adults with a diagnosis of autism and other complex needs within residential, supported living, community and social enterprise services. I also supported the introduction of strategies/approaches and delivered individualised treatment programmes to enable individuals and those supporting or caring for them to better regulate sensory responses, improve access to a variety of environments, promote independence and to enable individuals to work towards their personal goals.
  • Developing and delivering bespoke training packages regarding autism and sensory processing awareness and practical support strategies to a wide range of individuals and groups including parents, health and education professionals, service providers, medical students, MA Autism students and other organisations.
  • Delivering consultancy services including; developing service resources and environments, and providing advice and training to enable school staff to; begin to apply aspects of sensory processing theory to their practise, create effective learning environments, promote pupil engagement in learning activities and maximise attention and concentration.

 My qualifications include:

  • BSc(HONS) Occupational Therapy
  • MA Autism

I am a registered member of the following professional bodies:

  • Health and Care Professions Council
  • Royal College of Occupational Therapists

My passion for my specialism along with my extensive knowledge, skills and experience in my field drive me to ensure that my services provide the maximal benefits to all of my clients.
